Application

The purpose of measuring the power factor of a power meter is to assess the efficiency of electrical devices or systems in converting electrical power to useful output. Power factor is a measure of how effectively the electrical power is being utilized by a device or system. It indicates the ratio of real power (the power that performs useful work) to apparent power (the total power supplied to the device).

A power factor of 1 (or 100%) indicates that all the supplied power is being effectively used for useful work, while a lower power factor indicates that a portion of the supplied power is being wasted as reactive power, which doesn’t contribute to useful output. Monitoring the power factor helps in identifying inefficiencies in devices and systems and optimizing their performance for better energy utilization.
